This project is a mix of photographs I made and artifacts I collected during a residency at Elsewhere Artist Collaborative in Greensboro. The documents include letters, diary entries and advertisements, reflecting Elsewhere's origins as a catalogue company and seller of surplus merchandise. The business, called Carolina Sales Company, sold military gear, tents and clothing to Boy Scout troops and hospitals in the U.S., following World War II. Eventually, it became a thrift store. The documents are interspersed with photographs made inside Elsewhere, which is located in the building of the former store on South Elm Street.
